The iconic surgical pavilion of the Jewish Hospital in Odessa—a recognized architectural landmark and one of the most distinctive buildings in the city's historic medical complex—is currently undergoing a major restoration. The works are being carried out under the framework of the Ukraine Recovery Programme, according to a report from the Odesa City Council.

The project aims to fully revive the architectural integrity and functionality of the building, combining historical preservation with modern medical standards. The restoration includes replacing the roof, repairing the façades and original gates, installing decorative wrought-iron railings on the porch, and enhancing the site with updated lighting.

Inside, the pavilion will be fully renovated to meet contemporary medical requirements. This includes the installation of specialized wall panels, a complete overhaul of the internal utility systems, and the introduction of state-of-the-art surgical equipment.

In parallel, a large-scale modernization of the hospital’s heating infrastructure is underway. This includes the installation of a modular boiler room to improve energy efficiency and ensure reliable heating during the winter months.

Originally constructed between 1896 and 1898, the surgical pavilion was built using the latest architectural planning of its time. The building’s distinctive style combines retrospective Florentine Renaissance elements with touches of Gothic design, making it a prime example of early 20th-century hospital architecture in Ukraine.

The restoration is a significant step toward preserving Odessa’s architectural heritage while modernizing its healthcare facilities to better serve the public.
