Russia used offshore drilling platforms in the Black Sea that were seized in 2014 and hit by Ukraine to protect its ships from the Ukrainian Neptune complex. There the Russians placed their electronic warfare stations.

Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov spoke about this in an interview with ICTV.

Why were they so important? Not only did they steal our gas, not only were they stolen from Ukraine in 2014, but the Russians also placed their electronic warfare stations on them

At the same time, Reznikov noted that everyone could be convinced that Ukraine hit the platforms if they look at satellite images: they can be seen there on fire.

So it happened that someone was smoking unsuccessfully on those towers, and now they are not used for the purposes that the Russians conceived

Oleksiy Reznikov

In 2014, the Russian Federation seized the drilling platforms of Chornomorneftegaz, the so-called "Boyko towers". The invaders used them to monitor the surface situation with the help of electronic intelligence.
