The German defense giant Rheinmetall will build a new ammunition production plant to ensure uninterrupted supplies to Ukraine, as reported by the head of the German conglomerate, Armin Papperger, to the BILD publication.
In response to accusations by the German federal government of insufficient support for Ukraine, Papperger emphasized the good cooperation between the government and the defense industry.
"Many things have improved in military procurement. Only Rheinmetall received orders or framework agreements from the federal government last year amounting to over 10 billion euros – for the Bundeswehr and for Ukraine. This year, this amount will increase to at least 15 billion," reported the head of Rheinmetall.
Papperger also revealed that, in order to fulfill the contracts and ensure uninterrupted ammunition supply within the specified timelines, the conglomerate is constructing a new plant.
"The pace is fast: what would have taken ten years before is now achieved in a few months. We will now build a new ammunition plant in Germany in record time, to create strategic supply security," he stated.
Apart from the location, he did not provide further details about the project, so the opening and commencement dates of the facility remain unknown.
