Romanian intelligence services have prevented a sabotage operation organized by Russian intelligence, according to Romania’s intelligence agency.
The agency reported that, in cooperation with law enforcement and foreign partners, two Ukrainian citizens were detained for allegedly preparing to set fire to the headquarters of NOVA POST in Bucharest under instructions from Russian operatives.
According to the investigation, the suspects arrived in Romania from Poland and delivered parcels to the company’s office containing incendiary materials. Each parcel was also equipped with GPS devices and mechanisms that could be remotely activated. The suspects, whose actions were coordinated by Russian intelligence services, were under surveillance on October 14 and 15.
Thanks to the prompt actions of Romanian intelligence, the parcels were quickly located and neutralized. The agency emphasized that the use of specialized teams and technical equipment allowed for the immediate deactivation of the devices, preventing both accidental and deliberate detonation.
An investigation is currently underway with the participation of Romania’s foreign partners. Preliminary findings suggest that the detained individuals are part of a wider sabotage network operating across Europe under the control of Russian intelligence services.
