Russia attacked Ukraine with dozens of drones and missiles

On the night of June 12, 2024, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones. Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted most of the threats, except for an Iskander-M missile.

According to Commander of the Air Force Mykola Oleschuk, the Russian forces launched a combined missile and aerial strike using various types of missiles and attack UAVs.

In total, Russian forces deployed 30 air attack assets:

  • 4 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 MS strategic bombers (launched from the Saratov region, Russia);
  • 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile (from Crimea);
  • 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aero-ballistic missile (from the airspace of the Tambov region, Russia);
  • 24 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs (launched from Yeysk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia).

The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces, including anti-aircraft missile units, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare systems, engaged in countering the attack, successfully shooting down 29 of the 30 aerial targets:

  • 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aero-ballistic missile;
  • 4 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles;
  • 24 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs.

Air defense operations were conducted in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Vinnytsia regions.
