Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and over 130 drones

On the night of October 16, Ukraine was once again under a large-scale Russian attack. Ukrainian air defense forces shot down two missiles and 51 strike drones.

According to the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Russia launched:

  • an S-300/400 guided missile at Ukrainian-controlled territory in Donetsk region;
  • an X-59 guided air missile at Chernihiv region from Kursk airspace;
  • 136 strike drones from launch areas in Kursk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

The response to the attack involved:

  • aviation;
  • anti-aircraft missile units;
  • electronic warfare (EW) units;
  • mobile fire groups from the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine.

During the defense, 51 drones were shot down across various regions: Sumy, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Ternopil, Kherson, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Chernivtsi.

Additionally, 60 Russian drones were lost in various regions due to active electronic warfare measures. The information is being updated.

Two more drones retreated towards Russia. Currently, over 20 drones are still in Ukraine's airspace.
