The Russian General Prosecutor’s Office has declared the British Equal Rights Trust “undesirable” due to its support for Ukraine and the LGBT movement, reports Current Time.
According to the Russian watchdog, the fund has allegedly supported Ukraine and the LGBT movement since 2022 and has “actively participated in an anti-Russian information campaign.”
The statement claims that the organization’s website publishes materials that supposedly discredit Russia’s domestic and foreign policies. Additionally, the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office alleges that fund members actively encourage support for the LGBT movement, which is considered extremist and banned in Russia, “with the aim of destroying the family and moral values of Russians.”
The Russian General Prosecutor’s Office also claims that, “under the guise of human rights work, Equal Rights Trust developed a scheme to finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” suggesting that members of the organization help opposition-minded Russians obtain citizenship in Eastern European countries “in exchange for agreements to donate funds to support the Ukrainian people,” but in reality, allegedly for the needs of the Ukrainian military.
The Equal Rights Trust has not commented on the Russian Prosecutor’s accusations.
On the organization’s website, it was announced that the fund will cease operations on September 30 of this year.
The fund was founded in 2007 “to combat discrimination and promote equality as a fundamental human right and principle of social justice.” In particular, the organization assisted Ukrainian partners in reforming equality legislation and supported equality coalitions in more than a dozen other countries.
