During a multi-stage special operation, the Security Service detained another enemy agent who was gathering intelligence on the Armed Forces' positions and geolocations of critical infrastructure in the Chernihiv region.
He passed the information to his accomplice in the Middle East. The SBU counterintelligence recently detained him in the Chernivtsi region, where he arrived to prepare a series of explosions at Ukrzaliznytsia facilities.
It was established that both men were part of the Russian special services intelligence network, which was created to carry out subversive activities in western Ukraine.
After the detention of his "liaison", the informant was given a new task - to reconnoiter the location of Ukrainian troops and strategic facilities near the border with Russia.
The enemy planned to use these data for missile strikes and preparation of sabotage in the occupied territories.
Currently, the detained informant has been informed about the suspicion under Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He was remanded in custody.
A pre-trial investigation is underway to identify and prosecute other persons involved in the crimes.
The special operation to expose the enemy agency was carried out by counterintelligence and SBU investigators in the Chernivtsi region under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor's office.
