Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine captures another Russian agent operating near frontline Zaporizhzhia. The perpetrator attempted to identify and relay precise coordinates of anti-aircraft missile systems to the Russian Federation.
The agent also monitored main routes and approximate numbers of Ukrainian military vehicles moving towards the front line. According to available information, the Russians intended to use this data to plan missile and drone strikes on the region, as well as prepare military operations in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
It was determined that the agent was in contact with a personnel member of the 316th Reconnaissance Center of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (known as GRU), stationed in occupied Sevastopol. Based on the case materials, this hostile intelligence officer reported directly to the leadership of Russia's military intelligence.
The SSU thwarted Russia's plans and apprehended the suspect red-handed while conducting reconnaissance near a potential target. The Security Service also conducted comprehensive measures to secure Ukrainian military locations.
Based on the evidence gathered, SSU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Article 111 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under conditions of war).
Currently, he is in custody, facing possible life imprisonment.
