As a result of a special operation in the region, two FSB agents were detained. They had been preparing a Russian missile strike on an ammonium nitrate storage facility at one of the seaports.

The investigation revealed that their task was to determine whether explosive-grade mineral fertilizers were present at a local transit warehouse. If informants confirmed this, Russian forces planned to carry out a missile strike that would have caused massive destruction.

The Russian agents turned out to be a 29-year-old local man and his 56-year-old accomplice.

To fulfill the task, the FSB informant got a job as a laborer at the port and began monitoring the arrival of maritime cargo.

Upon identifying tanks filled with ammonium nitrate, he immediately reported to his handler and sent the exact coordinates.

SSU officers detained the Russian informant and took measures to secure Odessa’s port infrastructure. Among other things, all the ammonium nitrate was removed from the potential target site.

The SSU also detained the agent’s accomplice. It was established that she had driven him in her car to carry out "test missions" for the Russian forces, including arson attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia relay cabinets.

During searches, law enforcement found evidence of collaboration with the Russian forces, as well as live grenades.

Currently, both individuals have been formally charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2, Article 111 – High treason committed under martial law;
  • Part 1, Article 263 – Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives.

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
