The Security Service detained two more Russian accomplices near the Sumy border. One of them is a Russian citizen residing in Ukraine who recently received an assignment to spy on the Defense Forces.

According to case materials, the offender was preparing for the infiltration of Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups into the Sumy region.

According to the Russian plan, the Russians hoped to penetrate the northeastern region of Ukraine from Russia’s Bryansk region.

To plan the movement route of the Russian sabotage groups “bypassing” the positions of the Defense Forces, the Russian had to identify the locations of Ukrainian troops near the border in the Shostka district.

To carry out this task, the accomplice involved his associate, a 60-year-old local unemployed man who was awaiting the region’s capture.

It was documented that under the guise of fishing trips, the suspects traveled around the border area and secretly recorded military objects.

During their reconnaissance trips, they also tried to identify locations of Russian strikes and transmit the coordinates of fire damage to the FSB.

The Security Service documented the suspects’ crimes and detained them at a checkpoint they attempted to cross after conducting additional reconnaissance near a Defense Forces base.

At the scene, mobile phones used to gather intelligence and communicate with the FSB were seized from the detainees.

SSU investigators have formally charged them.

The offenders are in custody. They face up to 12 years in prison.
