The Baltic countries plan to disconnect from the joint energy system with Russia and Belarus at the beginning of 2025. Instead, they will synchronize with the European ENTSO-E energy system.

This information was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Lithuania. According to the ministry, the energy ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia held a meeting in Jurmala, where they confirmed that preparations for the synchronization of the Baltic countries with the continental European ENTSO-E energy system are proceeding according to plan.

"In the coming weeks, the Baltic transmission system operators will inform other parties of their joint decision not to renew the contract with BRELL (the Belarus-Russia-Estonia-Latvia-Lithuania electric ring)," the statement from the Ministry of Energy said.

The ministry specified that after this decision, the Baltic countries will conduct tests of their isolated system and synchronize with the continental European grids in February 2025.
