The EU will allocate Finland €1.6 billion for maintaining the border with Russia.

On July 18, ministers of European countries discussed the European Commission’s proposals for the EU budget for 2028–2034. According to the data on the distribution of funds published the day before, Finland will receive €1 billion more for maintaining the eastern border than in the current funding period.
Minister for European Cooperation and State-Owned Companies Joakim Strand confirmed this information.
“The European Commission proposes €1.6 billion for Finland, based on the criteria of border control and migration. This is over €1 billion more than in the current period,” said the minister.

He noted that the European Commission’s decision indicates that the Finnish point of view was taken into account.
