The documentary film Cuba & Alaska by director Yehor Troyanovsky won two awards at the Brussels International Film Festival (BRIFF). This was announced in a post on the festival’s Facebook page. Troyanovsky’s film received two prizes in the "Directors' Week" programme: the Jury Prize and the Audience Choice Award, according to the BRIFF website.

The world premiere of Cuba and Alaska took place at the Sheffield DocFest, an international festival of documentary cinema and interactive media in the UK, held from June 18 to 23 this year.

The documentary tells the story of two Ukrainian female soldiers with the call signs “Cuba” and “Alaska.” These women are best friends and witty paramedics on the frontlines in Ukraine, sharing a common experience among all soldiers: the longer they defend Ukraine, the more they lose connection with friends, family, and their former lives.

The film was produced in a co-production between Ukraine, Belgium, and France by the companies 2BRAVE PRODUCTIONS, TAG FILM, and CLIN D’OEIL FILMS. The producers are Olga Bregman, Christian Popp, and Hanne Flipo. The project received support from the Ukrainian Film Academy’s post-production grant program in partnership with Netflix. In Ukraine, the film is distributed by Green Light Films.
