Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto has stated that alongside military support for Ukraine, it is time to initiate a political solution to end the war caused by Russia's invasion.
Crosetto made these remarks on Saturday during a visit to Italian troops stationed in Malbork, Poland, as quoted by the ANSA news agency.
"The war has been going on for almost two years now and I think that, alongside and in parallel with military engagement and support for Ukraine, it is important to take paths that lead to a political solution," Crosetto said. ""What cannot be achieved militarily - and up to now we have achieved the preservation of Ukraine, which could have been wiped out, and the consolidation of a border that blocked the Russian attack - can be achieved by opening a diplomatic and political front to try to achieve the same result through peace talks," added the minister.
According to him, what existed before the war must be restored, and "what failed to be done with weapons must be done in another way."
