Among the main tasks of the Marine Corps will be planning, deployment, and support of subordinate forces according to NATO standards. The Corps will include existing separate brigades of marines and artillery.
According to the Command of the Naval Infantry of the Ukrainian Navy, the Marine Corps will be assigned to carry out tactical and operational-tactical tasks as part of an operational grouping or independently. In other words, with an appropriate force composition, the Marine Corps will be able to independently form an operational-tactical group of troops for operations on the coastal direction.
Key tasks include planning, deployment, and support of subordinate forces according to NATO standards, specifically operational planning for the use of the ground component (Land Component Command - LCC) of the joint interagency group (Joint Task Forces - JTF) during operations.
Additionally, the Marine Corps will conduct offensive (assault, landing) operations in river basins and reservoirs in cooperation with naval forces. It will also be responsible for the defense of crucial coastal facilities and sections of the coastline, among other duties.
The Corps will consist of existing separate brigades of marine infantry and separate artillery brigades, as well as other combat units and support units. There are plans to create several more combat brigades and marine infantry battalions, but details are not yet disclosed by the Navy.
The Command of the Naval Infantry is also undergoing transformations. This management body will become part of the command of the Ukrainian Navy as a structural unit. The Command of the Naval Infantry will be responsible for generating capabilities, determining the needs for resources necessary for the proper execution of tasks.
The Command of the Naval Infantry will also plan the deployment and development of marine infantry units, their technical equipment, training, and comprehensive support.
"The creation of the Marine Corps is an important step aimed at strengthening defense capabilities and ensuring national security in the face of repelling Russia's large-scale aggression. In other words, the Marine Corps will become an even more powerful force in the fight against Russian occupiers!" emphasized the Navy command.
