Prime Ministers of Ukraine and Norway, Denys Shmyhal and Jonas Gahr Støre, discussed joint weapons production.
Denys Shmyhal shared the update on Telegram following their meeting on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings in Washington.
“We appreciate the $8 billion allocated by Norway for Ukraine this year. It is especially important that the vast majority of these funds are directed toward military needs,” he stated, noting that in the past two weeks alone, $1.4 billion had been allocated for artillery ammunition and military training, along with two smaller packages aimed at strengthening the healthcare system and supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction. According to Shmyhal, the two sides discussed joint weapons production.
“We already have examples of successful cooperation and are committed to expanding our partnership. We count on the Norwegian government's support for companies interested in investing in Ukraine. This is not just an investment in Ukraine's defense capabilities but also in the security of all of Europe,” Shmyhal emphasized.
The Ukrainian Prime Minister also noted,
“Norway is our important ally. We are grateful for its co-leadership in the Maritime Capability Coalition, as well as its active and effective participation in the coalitions on air forces, air defense/missile defense, drones, and electronic warfare.”
The Prime Ministers also discussed economic cooperation and efforts to end the war.
“We value Norway’s stance on the importance of establishing a just peace,” Shmyhal said. “We are grateful to the Norwegian government for its vital assistance and solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” he added.
