Counterintelligence of the Security Service has detained another agent of the Russian military intelligence who directed the strikes against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk region.

The perpetrator carried out tasks to 'guide' Russian S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to the locations of temporarily stationed units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces near Vuhledar. To accomplish this, the suspect, during breaks between shelling, traversed the area and documented the points of deployment of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian defenders.

He transmitted the gathered information to the Russian special services through a popular messenger in the form of screenshots of maps with accompanying text files.

SSU officers arrested the military intelligence agent near the front line.

According to the investigation, the culprit turned out to be a resident of Vuhledar, a former head of one of the departments of the Donetsk Regional Customs.

Before the full-scale invasion by Russia, the official retired, and in December 2023, he remotely joined the main directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia (known as the GRU). To contact the Russian forces, the traitor called his former colleague, who is currently a liaison officer of Russian military intelligence in the occupied part of the Donetsk region.

During searches, the detained person's mobile phone was seized, containing evidence of his intelligence and subversive activities in favor of Russia.

Currently, the Security Service investigators have informed the suspect about the suspicion under Article 111, Part 2, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed during a state of war). The perpetrator is in custody, facing possible life imprisonment.
