Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a new series of Russian shelling of border areas in the Sumy region.
As a result of the special operation, the undercover agents of Russian intelligence, who were preparing strikes against the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine defending the northeastern borders of Ukraine, were detained "in the act."
According to available information, the occupiers planned to use various types of weapons for the shelling, including the BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launch systems.
To facilitate Russian attacks, the perpetrators were supposed to identify the locations of Ukrainian military bases and transmit their coordinates to the occupiers.
SSU employees learned about this plan of the aggressor at the initial stage of the reconnaissance activities of Russian agents. This allowed timely comprehensive measures to secure the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and to detain both perpetrators when they were conducting reconnaissance near the potential target.
According to the investigation, the unemployed local residents, a couple, were working remotely for the Russian special services through an anonymous chat in a messenger. To carry out the task, the traitors traveled along the border in their own car, where they tracked the positions of the Defense Forces. During the search of the detainees, mobile phones were seized, which they used to mark the geolocations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Google Maps.
Currently, the investigators of the Security Service have informed both suspects about the suspicion under Article 28 Part 2, Article 111 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law by a conspiracy of a group of persons).
The criminals are in custody. They face life imprisonment.
