The Security Service prevented a series of missile-drone strikes by the aggressor on military and critical infrastructure in Rivne region.
As a result of the special operation in the regional center, an FSB agent who was preparing coordinates for hostile attacks has been arrested. Operating his own vehicle, he was driving around the city while simultaneously recording potential locations of the Armed Forces on the camera of his mobile phone. In this way, the suspect hoped to scout the locations of potential targets, including military hospitals.
SSU operatives received information in advance about the reconnaissance activities of the agent and documented each of his movements step by step. This allowed securing the positions of the Armed Forces and apprehending the suspect in the act when he conducted reconnaissance near Ukrainian defenders. A gadget used for covertly filming military objects of the Armed Forces was seized from the detainee's car.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice turned out to be a native of temporarily occupied Crimea. He had been residing in Rivne for some time, engaged in international commercial cargo transportation.
Before the full-scale war began, the man regularly visited the Ukrainian peninsula, where his relatives remained. During one of these trips, he was recruited by an employee of the "FSB management in Crimea and Sevastopol." After February 24, 2022, they remotely "activated" its agent to conduct reconnaissance and subversive activities in favor of the Russian Federation. In addition to bringing Russian missiles into Rivne region, he also tracked the movement of military convoys with heavy equipment of the Armed Forces along the western region highways.
Based on the collected evidence, the Security Service investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
