Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained the head of one of the departments of the Khmelnytskyi City Council who was working for the FSB.
Following the orders of the Russian forces, the official gathered information on the locations and residences of Ukrainian military personnel in the region.
The enemy was particularly interested in intelligence about the units of the SSU and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The suspect also tried to identify the addresses of Ukrainian drone production facilities, which send drones to the frontline.
According to available data, the Russian forces planned to use this information to prepare missile strikes, as well as possible sabotage and terrorist attacks.
The Security Service promptly uncovered the enemy's plans and detained the culprit in the act while he was attempting to transmit intelligence directly from his office to the aggressor.
The investigation revealed that the suspect came to the attention of the FSB during his studies at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University in the 1990s.
After the full-scale invasion began, an FSB officer contacted him and recruited the official for intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine.
They maintained communication through anonymous chats in messengers.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators informed the detainee of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).
He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment.
