Any property that is permanently confiscated is to be returned to Ukraine following an international agreement.
The Swiss Federal Council (government) has begun the procedure for administrative confiscation of assets of the environment of the ex-president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, for a total of 130 million Swiss francs.
The press service of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine reported this. We are talking about assets frozen after the Revolution of Dignity in February 2014. They belonged to persons in respect of whose actions NABU detectives carried out a pre-trial investigation in certain criminal proceedings, including jointly with the competent authorities of Switzerland.
It is noted that after the start of full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation last year, the Federal Council began to consider cases of confiscation under the law on illegal foreign assets (FIAA). Thus, on May 25, 2022, the first proceedings for the confiscation of approximately 100 million Swiss francs were initiated. After further discussions, the Federal Council ordered another proceeding for 30 million Swiss francs, bringing the total amount of assets subject to confiscation to over 130 million francs.
At the same time, according to the information of the Federal Council, the assets will remain frozen until the final decision of the Swiss administrative justice system on confiscation. Any property that is permanently confiscated will be returned to the Ukrainian people in accordance with an international agreement.
