Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, this year the Warsaw Film Festival hosts the Odesa International Film Festival

The 38th Warsaw Film Festival started on October 14. Director of the festival Stefan Laudyn, welcoming the participants of the opening ceremony, reminded them that this year's festival is being held in exceptional conditions.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! This is the 38th festival, but the first to take place during a war. We can't forget about it!".

Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Zvarych thanked Polish filmmakers for their support and solidarity.

"Representatives of the Polish film industry have always stood on the side of truth, on the side of the free world. You have always been in solidarity with Ukraine. Thank you very much for that. You opened your doors to the Odessa Film Festival this year, but in previous years you organized many such solidarity actions. In particular, with the demand for the release from Russian captivity of the Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov. He is free today, but he is fighting for the freedom of Ukraine and Poland," said the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Zvarych.

Ihor Sukmanov, who cooperated with the Odesa International Film Festival, called to watch Ukrainian films shown as part of the Ukrainian competition.

"These are essential, highly rated films from Ukraine, and I hope you will feel both the pain and the joy of Ukraine, the spirit of brave and independent people who dare to overcome Russia's attack. I hope these movies bring you both pain and joy. Watch these films, discuss them."

During 10 days, world cinema fans will be able to watch 156 films from more than 57 countries, including feature films, documentaries, short films and animated films. The festival will last until October 23.
