The Verkhovna Rada has passed a bill on lifelong financial monitoring for top officials, as reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

The main innovation in the document is that, instead of three years after taking office, top officials will effectively have lifelong status as politically significant figures.

276 MPs voted in favor of the bill, and there were no votes against it.

"This is the final step to start negotiations about Ukraine's membership in the EU," added Zheleznyak.

According to MP Zheleznyak, the document's wording complies with international standards for combating money laundering and the fight against terrorism (AML/CFT), which will be considered as fulfilling the requirements of the IMF.
