To explore the architecture of Ukrainian villages, the architectural studio Balbek Bureau is calling on Ukrainians to send photos of their ancestral homes. As part of the RE:Ukraine Villages project, the team is embarking on expeditions across Ukraine.
Collecting data from Ukrainians will help expedite their research, according to Balbek Bureau. Photos of ancestral homes can be submitted by October 20th using the following link.
The goal of the project is to preserve the organic image of Ukrainian villages and prevent it from being erased by typical development, according to the team.
The team has also created an online designer where you can select a region, create a house with characteristic elements, and receive a finished design project. This will simplify the reconstruction of rural housing with respect for the local context, as explained by Balbek Bureau.
The online designer for RE:Ukraine Villages began development in June 2022, immediately after the de-occupation of parts of Kyiv region. The Balbek Bureau team, in collaboration with the "Kyiv Volunteer" foundation, documented authentic rural houses through photographs, videos, and the use of drones
