On the anniversary of the Russian military invasion, Riga will be specially decorated as a sign of support for Ukraine, and the building of the Riga City Council, the Congress House, and the Freedom Monument will be illuminated in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, the Riga City Council's communications department told LETA.
Billboards and stands in the city are decorated with posters in the colours of the Ukrainian flag with the inscription "Together for the victory of Ukraine!".
On February 24, a trolley bus decorated in the colours of the Ukrainian flag will begin to run through the city streets. For a year now, the doors of public transport in Riga have been decorated with stickers with the Ukrainian flag, which are regularly updated. Also, Ukrainian flags have been hanging near municipal institutions for a year.
"Since February 24 last year, the Riga municipality and the residents of Riga have been tirelessly helping Ukraine and the Ukrainians who have chosen Riga as their refuge. The Ukrainian flag symbolizes a stubborn struggle for their existence, amazing courage, and indestructible spirit. By lighting up the facades of buildings in Riga and placing the colors of the Ukrainian flag on advertising shields, we reiterate our constant support and readiness to help Ukraine. I invite the people of Riga to join us by placing Ukrainian flags at their houses and in the windows of their apartments," says Riga City Council Chairman MÄrtiÅÅ¡ StaÄ·is.
Since February 24, 2022, more than 20 thousand civilians of Ukraine have arrived in Riga.
