The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova have agreed to extend the Agreement on the liberalization of freight transport between the two countries until the end of 2027.
The corresponding decision was approved during a meeting of the Joint Commission on Transport in Chișinău. The Ukrainian ministry was represented by Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach. Thanks to the extension of the liberalization, Ukrainian and Moldovan carriers can continue to carry out bilateral and transit road transport without the need for special permits.
“Over the past year, trade between Ukraine and Moldova increased by 12% and reached about $1.1 billion. Liberalization of road freight transport plays a significant role in this, as the permit-free regime allows goods to be delivered without restrictions. In addition, Moldova is important to our business in terms of transit, as it provides access to the markets of other countries. I thank our Moldovan colleagues for their joint efforts to develop the economies of both countries,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration – Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba.
As a reminder, the Agreement on the liberalization of freight transport between Ukraine and Moldova was first signed in August 2022. In 2023, the parties agreed to extend the “transport visa-free regime” until the end of 2025. This is the second extension of the agreement, ensuring the continuity of bilateral and transit transport.
Background: In April of this year, Ukraine and the EU automatically extended the liberalization of freight transport until the end of 2025. In total, Ukrainian carriers benefit from simplified freight conditions with 35 European countries.
