During the EU leaders' summit held in Brussels on June 27-28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a cooperation agreement in the field of security with the European Union as an institution.

On the European side, the document was signed by the Presidents of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

Earlier on Thursday, European Council President Charles Michel stated that the agreement aims to ensure long-term support for Kyiv.

As reported, on June 19, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced the completion of work on the text of the security guarantee agreement with the EU. Relevant negotiations had been ongoing for several months. According to the Office of the President, the signing of this document will be another significant step towards strengthening Ukraine's security.

The security guarantee document with the European Union is the 18th such agreement signed between Ukraine and its partners. Ukraine has previously signed similar agreements with the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Latvia, and other countries.
