More than 281,000 tons of vegetable storage capacity in Ukraine have been lost due to the war.
This was reported by Vitaliy Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, during a meeting with representatives of the public association of food retail leaders (UFRA), according to the ministry’s press service.
The discussion focused on the development of the vegetable storage system.
“Currently, 35% of the vegetable harvest does not reach consumers simply because of a lack of proper storage conditions. The overall deficit exceeds 1.1 million tons,” Vitaliy Koval noted.
According to him, vegetable storage facilities are not just warehouses. They are:
- a way to store the harvest and sell it at a better price;
- a tool to contain inflation;
- support for local farmers;
- new jobs and tax revenues for the budget;
- a step towards import substitution and the development of export products with added value.
