The markets of the Middle East and North Africa are important for Ukrainian sugar producers as an alternative to the European market, which is limited by quotas.
This was shared by the head of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine, Yana Kavushevskaya, during a meeting at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, as reported by the association on Facebook.
She noted that in the 2024/25 marketing year, nearly 90% of the 500,000 tons exported went to these regions. Leading importers of Ukrainian sugar include Turkey, Libya, Lebanon, Somalia, Jordan, and Cameroon. Ukrainian sugar producers are also ready to further expand the export geography in the region and rely on the ministry's support in this matter.
“We have real prospects — and now it is important to take advantage of them. Currently, Ukraine’s share in global trade is only 0.2%. Demand for quality food products is growing, and Ukraine has long proven its ability to be a reliable supplier. Our goal is to scale this experience, open new markets, form trade hubs, and make exports systematic,” emphasized the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Koval, during the meeting.
