In Ukraine, 462 thousand lands are already under organic production, which is 1.1% of all agricultural lands of the Country.
The report on the state of the organic market in 2020 was published by the press service of the Swiss-Ukrainian programme "Development of trade with higher added value in the organic and dairy sectors of Ukraine."
According to the report, in 2020 the EU countries had 9.2% of land under organic production, with the largest share in Liechtenstein (41.6%), Austria (26.5%) and Estonia (22.4%). As for the number of companies operating in the organic sector of Ukraine, out of 549 operators, which also include traders and processors, the number of organic producers is 419. In Europe in 2020 there were more than 417 thousand organic producers (of which 349 thousand - in the EU). Most producers in Italy (72 thousand), France (53 thousand) and Turkey (52 thousand).
Currently, Ukraine lags far behind European countries, but has a good growth rate of organic land over the past 10 years. According to the book "The world of organic agriculture. Statistics and New Trends 2022 â, Ukraine ranked fourth in terms of exports of organic products to the European Union in 2020. Despite the fact that the share of organic land in Ukraine is only 1.1% of all agricultural land, according to the National Economic Strategy In 2030, an increase in the area under organic production to 3% of the total area of ââagricultural land in Ukraine (about 1.3 million hectares) and an increase in exports of organic products to 1 billion US dollars.
Switzerland has been supporting the development of Ukraine's organic market for 20 years, promoting the potential of key players in the organic sector and trade in organic products in both domestic and export markets. Important elements for the further development of the organic sector of Ukraine are partnership and coordinated work of public authorities, the private sector and international projects.
