Ukraine will be armed with the latest German Skyranger air defense systems worth hundreds of millions of euros.

The agreement was announced by Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger in an interview with ZDF.

Deliveries of the air defense systems are expected to begin this year.

According to Papperger, the contract will be signed on Wednesday at the DSEI defense exhibition in London.

The exact number and specific Skyranger variant that Ukraine will receive have not been disclosed.

“Each of these systems can cover an area of four by four kilometers, providing a full no-drone zone. This means that all UAVs will be destroyed,” Papperger said.

The Skyranger system is a remotely operated module equipped with an automatic 30- or 35-mm cannon and optionally a launcher for surface-to-air missiles. The module can be mounted on various self-propelled chassis, including Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, which are already in service with Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
