Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Astrakhan gas processing plant in the Russian Federation on the night of December 15.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.
“To reduce the enemy’s capacity to produce explosives, on the night of December 15, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully hit a strategic enemy facility – the Astrakhan gas processing plant,” the statement reads.
According to the General Staff, the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant is one of the key enterprises in Russia's oil and gas industry. The plant produces up to 3.5 million tons of sulfur annually, which is used for the production of explosives for Russia’s military-industrial complex.
Explosions were recorded on the plant's premises, and a large fire broke out.
The extent of the damage is being clarified.
“The Defense Forces will continue taking measures to undermine the offensive potential of the Russian invaders and force the Russian Federation to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine,” the General Staff emphasized.
