Ukrzaliznytsia, in collaboration with The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, has launched a new project called the Food Train. Special thermoboxes installed inside the train will make it easy to transport pre-packaged lunchboxes to consumers.

It has already undergone a test run, and in the near future, a joint team from Ukrzaliznytsia and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation will take up permanent duty in the most challenging front-line areas of Ukraine.

"Railway stations last winter became centers for warming up and feeding all Ukrainians in the front-line regions, where blackouts were regular. This year, in addition to the stations, we have created an entire train capable of producing over 10,000 servings of food per day anywhere and at any time," Ukrzaliznytsia stated.

The train consists of 6 cars under the locomotive:

  • Generator car (~400 kW + its own refueling station for autonomous operation);
  • Refrigerated car with a freezer for storing products;
  • Car with a cold kitchen for initial food processing;
  • Car with a hot kitchen for preparing final dishes;
  • Personnel car with a shower and washing machine;
  • Baggage car with a capacity of 27,000 liters of water, filtration, and pumping stations.

The train's equipment allows for the preparation of full meals, including soups, porridge, salads, meat, and more.

The Food Train can operate autonomously for 5-7 days.

The creation of the train was fully financed by The Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
