Six Ukrainian tennis players, led by Marta Kostyuk, have secured spots in the first main round of the US Open.
Reported by the official tournament website, Ukraine's top-ranked player has advanced to the 1/64 finals of the US Open. She will be joined by five compatriots.
Competing alongside Kostyuk in the main draw's first round are Dayana Yastremska, Elina Svitolina, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko, and Kateryna Baindl, who utilized a protected ranking to compete in New York. In the qualifying rounds, Daria Snigur, Yuliya Starodubtseva, Katarina Zavatska, Anastasiya Soboleva, and Valeriya Strakhova will also participate.
Last year, Svitolina was the top performer among Ukrainians, reaching the tournament's third round before falling to American Jessica Pegula. The tournament was won by another American representative, Coco Gauff.
The US Open will commence on August 26 this year and will run until September 8, marking the final major of the season. Ukrainian players are looking towards Svitolina's performance, who reached the semifinals of the competition in 2019.
