Major General of the SSU (Security Service of Ukraine), military, and public figure Viktor Yagun believes that 2025 will be a critical year for Russia.
He stated this in an interview with the Espreso TV channel.
"The enemy understands that 2024 is the last year when the Russian Federation is still capable of conducting military operations at the pace we are currently seeing. Russia can still mobilize a certain category of people, make use of the remnants of the equipment it has. Russians are still financially capable of doing something, but 2025 is critical for them. They do not want to enter that critical year without realizing that they have a chance to stop the war, negotiate something, and get a conditional respite," explained Yagun.
The Major General of the SSU also added that Russians are willing to talk to anyone, but not with Ukraine.
"Russia sends messages that it is ready to talk, but there is a nuance. The nuance is that Russians are ready to talk to the West. They are ready for negotiations with the USA, with NATO, with Brussels, with anyone, but not with Ukraine. The Russian concept is simple: Ukraine does not decide anything; let's talk with you and decide the fate of Ukraine, divide it in half, and forget this conflict. Informed Western politicians will not go for it, but there is a certain political circle that is pushing for it. Because every war ends with negotiations," Yagun emphasized.
