In Washington, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, Giorgia Meloni.
The head of state thanked her for making Ukraine's defense capabilities and reconstruction a priority during Italy's presidency of the G7 this year.
Volodymyr Zelensky briefed her on the situation on the front lines, Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities, including the strike on the prominent children's hospital Okhmatdyt in Kyiv.
The leaders discussed Ukraine's key needs, especially in terms of air defense systems (PPO), the outcomes of the first Peace Summit, as well as preparations for the second Summit and the upcoming Conference on Ukraine's Reconstruction, scheduled for Italy in 2025.
During the meeting, particular attention was given to the results of the NATO Summit in Washington, which marked another significant step towards Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance.
Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Giorgia Meloni the Order of Freedom for her significant personal contribution to strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and Italy, and for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state.
