President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that the Russians managed to destroy the Tripilska Power Plant because Ukraine had completely run out of missiles for the air defense systems that protected the station amid a lack of assistance from allies.
Zelensky made these remarks in an interview with PBS.
He commented on Israel's joint defense by allies, who repelled an Iranian attack over the weekend. According to the president, Israel alone would not have been able to defend itself against such a massive strike from the Iranian side.
"A lot was used, things that Ukraine lacks... This is really a demonstration of what allies are, not just on paper, but in the sky," the president said, adding that Ukraine defends the skies independently.
He emphasized that allies provide Ukraine with various equipment, but "we have a shortage of it."
"I'll give you a very simple example: at the Tripilska Power Plant, which provides electricity to the Kyiv region. Eleven missiles were fired. We destroyed the first seven, and the remaining four hit Tripilska. Why? Because there were no missiles left. We ran out of all the missiles that defended Tripilska," the president explained.
