Montenegro intends to join the European Union mission to train Ukrainian military personnel.

The Ministry of Defense of Montenegro informed Radio Free Europe about this decision.

The ministry recently approved participation in this mission after Montenegro expressed its intention to provide Ukraine with additional support and contribute to the EU's common security and defense policy.

The EUMAM mission was initiated by the European Council in 2022 to assist Ukraine by strengthening its military potential.

The mission is authorized to provide individual, collective, and specialized training to Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel in EU member countries.

"We are currently in the process of implementing national procedures that should lead to the adoption of a parliamentary decision on the participation of armed forces personnel in this mission," the Ministry of Defense stated.

The decision to deploy army units as part of international forces is made by the Parliament of Montenegro upon the proposal of the Defense and Security Council.

The confirmation of Montenegro's participation in EU military assistance in Ukraine was also provided by the State Secretary of Defense, Marko Marković, on April 10 during a meeting with Ukrainian Ambassador Oleg Gerasimenko.

"Montenegro firmly supports Ukraine in its struggle to preserve territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as the freedom of the Ukrainian people. It expresses its support and solidarity not only rhetorically but also through concrete political participation, as well as financial and humanitarian contributions," the Ministry of Defense stated.

At the moment, 24 EU member states have offered Ukraine training and personnel within the framework of EUMAM.
