International partners, in coordination with the Ministry of Energy, have delivered a gas turbine installation to Odessa. This is the first of four installations planned for delivery to the city. The installation of this equipment, provided with financial assistance from the governments of Japan, Norway, and Sweden, and supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine, could cover 45% of the energy supply needs for Odessa's critical infrastructure.
“These measures are extremely important today and align with government priorities for the development of distributed generation, which is being implemented throughout the country. These are fast, practical, and effective solutions that meet the challenges of wartime. We thank our international partners for the equipment. Its efficient installation will help us meet the needs of consumers during this heating season and in the future. We continue to implement distributed generation projects across all regions of Ukraine,” said Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine Mykola Kolisnyk in his video address during the official handover of the first of four gas generators to the city.
Representatives of the donor countries — Japan, Norway, and Sweden — expressed their understanding of the importance of the energy sector and their full support for Ukraine, as well as their admiration for the work of Ukrainian energy specialists who are restoring critical infrastructure after Russian attacks.
UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, Jako Silje, confirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Government and cities of Ukraine in ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply:
"The placement of these cogeneration units directly where energy is needed allows a 40% reduction in fuel consumption for each unit. This initiative is an important step in decentralizing and strengthening Odessa's energy infrastructure. Thanks to the Green Energy Recovery Programme, UNDP will continue to work with partners to rebuild and improve essential services in Odessa, enhancing resilience and promoting sustainable energy solutions."
