The Latvian government has decided to allocate 100 million euros to support Ukrainian medical facilities during the war.

This was reported by the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

It is noted that the contribution can be used for the reconstruction of medical facilities, equipping them with medical equipment, and ensuring their operation and patient care.

Based on the current situation, the contribution will be channeled through one responsible UN agency: the World Health Organization, the United Nations Office for Project Services, or through the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

Additionally, the Latvian Ministry of Health, in close cooperation with the Ukrainian Ministry of Health and embassies, is gathering information on urgently needed medicines, medical supplies, and equipment and is already working on organizing the next batch of donations for Ukrainian medical facilities.

The Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the country has been providing bilateral aid to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion, supplying medical devices, medicines, ambulances, and other medical equipment and materials.

"The World Health Organization has confirmed 1,878 attacks (since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation) on medical facilities, personnel, transport, materials, and patients," the statement reads.

The Ministry recalled that on July 8, 2024, Russia launched a missile strike on Ukraine's largest children's hospital, Okhmatdyt, as well as on the ISIDA Women's Health and Family Planning Center. The airstrikes injured and killed several patients and doctors from both medical institutions. These attacks have severely disrupted the operations of the medical facilities and placed additional strain on other hospitals in Ukraine.
