The self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, appointed Alexander Turchin as the new Prime Minister of Belarus.

According to the state news agency BelTA, the appointment was made following a procedure in accordance with the Constitution of Belarus, where the Prime Minister is appointed by the President with prior consent from the House of Representatives.

Previously, Turchin held the position of Head of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee. In 2016, he was the head of the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and from 2018 to 2019, he served as the First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus.

In his new role, Turchin stated to the press that "there will be no significant adjustment to the economic course." He added,

"My favorite saying is 'evolution without revolutions,'" emphasizing the importance of ensuring the stable and balanced development of the country.

Turchin replaced Roman Golovchenko, who had served as Prime Minister since June 2020. Golovchenko has now become the head of the National Bank of Belarus.
