On December 8 in London, a meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and French President Emmanuel Macron aims to consolidate a joint European-Ukrainian position in peace negotiations.
This was announced Sunday at a briefing ahead of President Macron’s visit to London by the Élysée Palace.
“This will be the first meeting in the E3 plus Ukraine format at the head-of-state level. This format is part of European efforts to align discussions with the Americans and Ukrainians and consolidate what is most important at this moment, namely the European-Ukrainian position,” Macron’s office said.
The briefing noted that the working meeting will follow the second round of talks with the Americans. Afterwards, discussions will continue in a broader European context and new contacts with President Donald Trump are planned.
“The goal is to be well-informed on the components of the negotiations and to have the opportunity to further develop a position that is both decisive and responsible. This will allow Ukrainians to choose their fate regarding the parameters of a peace agreement, while Europeans can fully utilize all the tools at their disposal—financial or military support for Ukraine,” the Élysée Palace explained.
Regarding the organization of the talks, the three European leaders will meet first, followed by discussions with the President of Ukraine.
