The leaders of NATO member countries at the summit in Washington decided to create a new structure for coordinating assistance to Ukraine.

This was reported by Stern.

Today, July 12, the establishment of the new NATO-Ukraine command in Wiesbaden began.

However, it will likely take several more months for the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe to establish the command in a way that it can perform all the planned tasks.

Until then, American troops will continue to carry out coordination tasks. NATO countries want to mobilize at least 40 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine again over the next year.

It is noted that NATO has created a structure for providing assistance and training to Ukraine in the field of security - NSATU. This structure will coordinate the provision of military equipment and training for Ukraine from member and partner countries of the Alliance.

"The purpose of this structure is to provide Ukraine with long-term security assistance, ensuring enhanced, predictable, and consistent support," explained the Alliance.

NSATU will operate in the territories of Alliance member countries and will support Ukraine's self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter.

"According to international law, NSATU will not make NATO a party to the conflict. It will support the transformation of Ukraine's defense and security forces, contributing to its further integration into NATO," the statement said.

According to officials, all NATO countries agreed to the creation of the mission, and this will be announced at the summit.

Previously, aid to Ukraine was provided by individual countries, with less attention to its effectiveness and meeting Kyiv's most urgent needs. Bringing aid and training under a single command is intended to make this process more consistent and organized, knowledgeable officials stated.

The mission "NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine" (NSATU) will work on reducing duplication and complications associated with the various types of weapons being sent to Ukraine.
