Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi met with Ukrainian defenders who distinguished themselves during the Kursk operation and presented them with state and departmental combat awards.
Syrskyi shared the news on Facebook, stating:
"During a working trip, I awarded soldiers who stood out during the Kursk operation."
He noted that the operation, ongoing for nine months, had achieved most of its objectives.
"Thanks to our active actions in the Kursk region, we were able to prevent an enemy offensive campaign in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. The buffer zone created by the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the border areas remains relevant even now," Syrskyi said.
He emphasized that a numerically superior Russian forces can only be defeated with unconventional tactics, and the Kursk operation exemplified this approach — a surprise for the Russians.
"Ukraine has demonstrated that it can counterattack, strike, and push back the enemy, even on their own territory. This became possible thanks to specific military units, specific soldiers — true heroes of the Ukrainian army," Syrskyi added.
He highlighted the contribution of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment, which effectively completed its assigned tasks in the Kursk region.
"When we talk about successful active defense in northern Ukraine and in the border areas of the Russian Federation, we are primarily referring to the 225th."
"I had the honor of speaking with its fighters and commanders and personally presenting them with high-level state and departmental combat awards — for exemplary resilience, courage, and heroism," Syrskyi concluded.
