Ukrainian Navy: Russia increasing use of sea routes to launch drones

Russian forces are using the maritime direction to carry out drone attacks on Ukraine, since intercepting them over water is more difficult due to the operational characteristics of mobile fire groups and sea conditions. This was stated on television by Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.

According to Pletenchuk, these are mostly kamikaze drones.

“They enter from the maritime direction, and this is not accidental,” he noted.

The spokesperson explained that repelling such attacks in the maritime area is more difficult than on land.

“You cannot surround, for example, Odessa with mobile fire groups from one direction. All of this is done directly at sea, and that is more difficult because the sea is always rough, it is an element,” Pletenchuk said.

He added that Russian forces exploit these conditions when launching waves of drones from occupied Crimea and Russian territory, including for strikes on port infrastructure.

“And sometimes, unfortunately, debris also falls on the city,” he noted.
