President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness to step down from his position in exchange for peace in Ukraine.
He made this statement during a press conference.
When asked if he was willing to leave the presidency, Zelensky responded that he would be ready to step down for the sake of peace in Ukraine. He further stated,
"If peace for Ukraine, and if it is essential for you that I leave my post, I am ready. The second option is NATO—if such conditions are in place, I would agree immediately, so we wouldn't have to talk about it for long."
Zelensky emphasized that his focus is on Ukraine's security today, not in 20 years, and he does not intend to remain in power for decades.
"I believe NATO is the cheapest option, and that’s the truth. Regardless of who supports it or not, this issue is on the table. It will also be present in the context of security guarantees and negotiations. I don’t know how these talks will end, but this question will definitely be discussed," he said.
Zelensky noted that this matter would be discussed with partners.
"It’s important that we all understand—this is not a negotiation table where Ukraine is invited. It is our table, because the war is ongoing in Ukraine. We are the ones inviting European leaders, as the war is on our land. We are part of this continent," he emphasized.
