Romania intends to double its transit capacity for Ukrainian grain from 2 to 4 million tons per month. This statement was made by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Sorin Grindeanu, after negotiations with representatives from the United States, the European Union, Moldova, Ukraine, and Romania regarding alternative transportation routes for Ukrainian grain.

"We agreed that the export of Ukrainian grain should be expedited in the context of the recent attacks on the Ukrainian ports of Reni and Izmail. During these meetings, we emphasized the importance of Romanian land, rail, and maritime transportation routes to support the continuous flow of exports and imports with Ukraine," said Grindeanu.

He added that in terms of transportation on the Danube, the Sulina Channel is the only viable waterway for these shipments, so it is important to optimize the capacity of this route.

"It was an extremely good and productive meeting that will allow us, through the measures we will take, to increase the transit capacity of grain from Ukraine through Romania to almost 4 million tons per month, up from the current 2 million tons," emphasized Grindeanu.
