Russian forces are seriously afraid that Ukrainian troops might carry out a landing, crossing, and seizure of footholds on the Kinburn and Tendrivska spits.
This was stated on television by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, in response to a question about why Russian troops have stationed artillery and anti-tank systems on the spits.
According to him, artillery and anti-tank systems are the types of weapons used to prevent an amphibious landing by Ukrainian forces.
"In addition, the enemy can reach our shore with artillery from there — in particular, the area of the Kutsurub community and the area of Ochakiv. So... it looks more like the enemy is reinforcing its garrison on those spits precisely because it fears we will carry out a landing, crossing, and seizure of footholds there," Voloshyn said.
Responding to a question about how often the Russians use heavy equipment and tanks, he explained that on this front, the use of such vehicles is associated with specific risks.
"This is mainly a steppe zone, so this equipment can be seen from afar. When we detect its movement, we try to destroy it using various types of weapons. That’s why they try to conceal it and use it in limited numbers," he noted.
However, according to him, the Russians do deploy such equipment and have done so on several fronts.
"For example, they previously used it on the Novopavlivka axis and are bringing it up to the Orikhiv and Huliaipole directions. But as soon as we detect it — we strike immediately," he assured.
