Russia has lost control over 28 settlements in Kursk region following the onset of combat operations in the region.
Acting Governor of Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, reported this during a meeting with Vladimir Putin, as reported by Novaya Gazeta.
"The situation in the region is complex. As of today, 28 settlements are under the control of the adversary," Smirnov said.
He added that the depth of penetration into Kursk region is allegedly 12 kilometers, with a front width of 40 kilometers.
Smirnov also noted that there is no information about the "fate of 2,000 people" living in these 28 settlements.
Fighting in Kursk region began last week. Almost immediately after, the Russian Ministry of Defense and the FSB issued statements claiming that "Ukrainian military" had entered the region.
Ukrainian officials have not confirmed these rumors and have not commented on the course of the combat operations.
Since the start of the fighting, Russian Telegram channels have reported that Ukrainian defenders allegedly established control over several settlements, but this has not been officially confirmed.
